Notts firm leads the way in construction technology
Posted: 14/02/2007
Nottingham based Concrete Preservation Technologies is extending its business into Europe following the launch of new products for the protection of reinforced concrete structures.
With the construction industry suffering a shortage of skilled workforce and engineering projects generally being squeezed the market for products that extend the life of concrete structures is booming.
Concrete Preservation Technologies at Nottingham Science and Technology Park make products that are applied to existing concrete structures such as motorway bridges, car-parks, marine jetties, industrial and residential buildings.
Traditional reinforced concrete suffers insidious damage as a result of expansive corrosion of the reinforcing steel bar. CPT’s products stop this corrosion process offering 40+ years of extra life. The installation of the technology is simple, cost-effective and does not require the expensive long term monitoring and maintenance of traditional offerings.
Using a grant from East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Construction Network, they have invested in new laboratory analysis equipment that has helped them win new contracts.
Concrete Preservation Technologies director, Adrian Roberts said: “The intellectual property of our company is our strength. The new equipment will help us turn this expertise into products that keep us at the leading edge of this highly specialised and competitive market.”
East Midlands NTI is an initiative backed by the region’s leading colleges and universities. NTI provides matched funded grants of up to £10,000 to small and medium sized firms to invest in state of the art technology, and gain advanced technology skills through NTI approved courses. It is funded by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda), Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
Adrian added: “When you are a small or medium sized business you have limited capital and any help getting fundamental capital expenditure is of enormous benefit.”
Concrete Preservation Technologies have recently completed a £420,000 bridge refurbishment and contracts in Europe. They are planning to build their customer base outside Europe where conditions for concrete structures are even more aggressive.
